Designs stand casually to create the SCAPES hospitality

Osamu Misawa / Art Director
Hayama is a special place --- even when it rains, it doesn’t make you feel blue.
Maybe it’s because of the sea and the mountain.
It is a city for adults, including the distance people maintain with each other.
When I first heard about the project, I was able to see a good sense of reality to link the town of Hayama and the keyword “escape”.
A person can easily make for this place after a harsh day in Tokyo; Hayama is just an hour away.
It is very important for a busy person to create a time to rest.
I very much agreed with the idea of “Compact Design Hotel”, which endorses this kind of lifestyle.
I wanted to help shape hospitality through designs.

I selected four color concepts which I picked up from the natural environment of Hayama.
But I wanted to use them subtly, not too much.
Colors are fuzzy things. People take them differently.
I hope that these colors are not self-explanatory --- rather, I want the guests to feel and understand them differently.

Misawa graduated from School of Visual Arts (New York) in 1992.
He studied under Javier Romero, then began his career as a freelance art director based in New York.
He returned to Japan in 1998 and built Osamu Misawa Design Room.
